it may sound daft to you guys but could somebody please tell me what kind of engine oil should i run my miggy on? ive always had deisel motors so i thought id better get the right kind for the miggy. thanks folks [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Why Semi and not fully, out of interest?

Not asking to be an argumentative SOB, honest it's just that I always twitch when I hear 'semi synth' and I wonder why not spend a little extra for fully synth..

Why Semi and not fully, out of interest?

Not asking to be an argumentative SOB, honest it's just that I always twitch when I hear 'semi synth' and I wonder why not spend a little extra for fully synth..

Primary reason for full synth is slightly longer life.

Personally, I'd rather change i little more often, and no point using a more expensive oil.  Regular oil changes with a semi synth is far kinder to the engine than less regular changes with a longer life oil.

Depending on the turbo, still valid.  For a diesel, definately. For a high performance petrol turbo, I'd probably change the priorities on life/performance/properties.

Indeed - the MR2 gets fully synth from Opie, changed every 6k and/or after an extended session on track .. but it sees a hard life given it's putting out anywhere between 50 and 100% more power than standard (depending on how far the red mist descendswick gets turned up) with an oil-cooled plain bearing turbo

Anyway, I digress - can't argue with the price of the GM oil on the trade club, for sure.

The synthetic 5w30 is good stuff too, and about 60 odd quid for 20L IIRC. Worth a try if you can live with a 30 weight oil.

That's definitely what I'll put in the Omega soon - not sure I can get away with it in the MR2, but I'll give it a try once I fix the oil pressure & temperature gauges

I thought that 5w30 was the current recommendation from GM these days?
