Windscreen washer jets one side not working
« on: 06 October 2007, 10:42:39 »

Its maintenance Saturday. Going quite well.

The two jets on the passenger side have stopped working. I have tried clearing with a pin. No luck. I then thought maybe it is muck in the pipe. As usual it isn't at all easy to get at the pipes or nozzles on the reverse of the bonnet. In fact I cannot even see the T piece.

haynes manual says remove clip. Is that as easy as it sounds? Or am I going to snap something that is made of 10 year old plastic!

maybe the problem is electrical as I see both nozzles have a pair of wires going to them?

Any pointers as ever will be gratefully received.

before changing, from inside the bonnet you need to free the clips with a tiny screwdriver.

There may be lime deposits inside ,try kitchen kind of stuff first..But sooner or later you will change..

The pipe to the jet may be kinked where it runs inside the framework of the bonnet. The two wires are for heating the jets in cold weather to stop them freezing up, the heating comes on with the rear window and door mirrors I think. Fron inside the bonnet there are two pieces attached to the jet assembly to hold it in place, you must push these in to release the jet assembly, don't prise it out from the outside or you will break the retaining pieces and scratch your bonnet. Take the feed pipe off and operate the washers, this should flush any debris out which is too big to pass through the jets. Blow through the jets both ways, you will know if they are blocked as your face will go red!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finallc check that the feed pipe is not kinked where it is attached to the left hand bonnet hinge or where it attaches to the jet itself.
Good luck

There is a filter in the washer bottle which if clogged can effect the jet efficiency. Pull the filter out and see if it needs a clean. Mine was located at the bottom of the washer bottle.

PFL's ?  :-?

I had problem this on my Senator. Plenty out of the passenger side, nothing out of the driver's side. When I operated the washers with the bonnet up to see what was happening, I found that the washer nozzle had corroded & split so I was washing the engine bay on that side. New nozzle sorted it.

Pre Face Lift

Doh! ::) Of course! Do face lift cars not have the heaters then? I did toy with the idea moving my PFL :y washers from the bonnet to the scuttle where there are already blanks fitted ie as per face lift cars. Local body shop quoted £200 for a bonnet respray so that idea was quickly forgotton.  ;D  ;D

Yes but they are a different design, as are the replacements for the early cars washer jets, the originals corrode inside.

Three designs in all

Guys , I have struggled with a screwdriver trying to release something!

What is it that I am trying to unclip? I can sort of see two black plastic "lugs" inside the bonnet pressing against the metal. Do you press those in and the whole lot comes out of the bonnet (fresh air side) ?

The problem I had was that someone had joined the pipe together where the bonnet hinge is with to small bore hose, i got some slightly bigger hose to join the two ends together with a little stop of Loctite underneath. Squirts great now :y

Dragged this one from the past !!!

Does anybody know the part number for the heated washer jets that fit into the bonnet on a M/F Elite 1998....and probably more importantly an idea of the cost from GM. ?
