Black backed head lights.
« on: 04 February 2008, 15:55:44 »

Has anyone ever 'back blacked' their head lights on an omega? It looks really good on other models (astra etc) and I'm very tempted to do it as my chromey front lights stick out like a sore thumb on my dark green omega..

I've seen it done on other marques.. Just a case of splitting the head light, masking off the important reflective bits an dpainting the rest matt black.

i would imagine it is possible, however if you search you will find that there are some advertised on Ebay.

These are LHD units and so will not be suitable for the uk

Cheers ) Just had a search and these are exactly what I was thinking of doing:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-OMEGA-BLACK-PROJECTOR-HEADLIGHT-SET-94-99_W0QQitemZ150212806294QQihZ005QQcategoryZ23009QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Looks pretty damn good :D

so long as you don't paint any area that is supposed to be reflective for the purpose of lighting then you shouldn't have an issue.

I did it to headlamps on a Zafira many years ago, because the headlamp lenses were  bonded to the body i had to shoven them in the over, 200 degrees for 5 mins at a time until the bonding goo became loose enough to allow the usits to be split  ;) missus went mental when she saw two headlamps in the over  ;D

OK with projectors.  Ensure they are UK RHD E marked.  Many sellers are selling LHD ones that will fail MOT.  Any mention of DOT approved means LHD (DOT is American).  Despite what sellers say, the levers do NOT adjust LHD to RHD.

I have yet to see UK spec black ones.

I've seperated lenses before in the past but they have always been glass lenses, im a bit paranoid about trying it on plastic ones.. think I'll buy a spare set and do those  ;D
