ncd* nav laser replacement.
« on: 07 February 2009, 13:02:44 »

given that my head unit nav slot wont play writeable media, is there any point replaceing the lazer? or is the unit simply not capable, even with new tip top components?

from the price, it would be cheaper than, any genuine media, if you know what i mean  :-X  ::)

Units of that age were never designed to play recordable media, its a completely different format.

Hi Dave, that sounds like the death of what ever slim chance there may have been of getting tmc working, have heard the boy talk of it(the player) possibly working with Verbatum media burnt at times 1 speed. The disc i had and was spat out was burnt at times 4 and was the slowest the software would allow....

Lasers used for navigation differ from those used for audio.

If you are planning to use recordable audio discs in an audio slot, then no, but if you are wanting to use a recordable Nav disc in the Nav slot, you may just get away with it.

I have found Verbatim CDRs burnt at 1x have caused less problems when used on audio CDs in my CDC2s. Haven't had the CDC3s long enough to comment.

Never had a problem with CDR's in a CDC2 in the 8 years I had them in Vectra's. CDC3's (and obviously all the HU's that have them bolted on) seem a little more fragile.

Yep, The CDC3 is a standalone changer but on the NCDR2013/15, CCR2006 and CCRT2008 it's bolted to the original head unit - Basically all these units are based on the old single din headunits and the changer was just bolted on with a double din front fitted.

CDC2 was a bigger 6 disc unit (as found in the boot of Omegas with CCR600/800/ CCRT700) or the glovebox of Vectra B's with CCR600's)

If you ever find a CDC3 with 'TB' or the part number 91157147 written on it, let me know!

EDIT: TB beat me to it!!!

Why does it need to be a TB?

Looking to swap one of my spare 2013's for a 1500 so need a CDC3 that's compatible, I was lead to believe that the TB / 91157147 was the CAN version of the CDC3  :-/
