yup, and thats all ive seen in stock for ages.

Ive heard from another member that eternal and neu car parts both supply exactly the same parts.

still torn between that and stainless, given I rarely change cars.

That's my dilemma... This one is here to stay so stainless may be a sensible option :-\ :-\

Trouble with those trims I've not found many that work with twin pipes, also prone to falling off.

I like idea of the pipes being cut back, and stainless twin pipes welded on, will look close to the genuine & be solid.

Be a lot cheaper if i had a welder & knew how to use it  :-[

I kept the stainless ends from my original exhaust with that in mind, but then found some trims that were pretty much identical, and it saved polishing up the old trims.

Ok, one of them has fallen off due to a dodgy jubilee clip  :-[ but I caught it before it got lost.

Theboy has a welder and it'd be the ideal "learning" job, IMHO. ;)

This is what I have advised in the past. It's only three little tacks that hold the originals on. That way you can keep the same bumper profiling as well and they are slash cut which I prefer. The Eternal one definately needs stainless finishers on to finish them off.
As previously mentioned, I fitted cat back Jetex stainless a few years ago and it is definately not drony or noisy but I can see peoples reluctance to spend around £500 on a car that is not worth thousands. Some people buy cheap tyres, others buy brand names (me). Some people buy aftermarket parts, others buy genuine parts (me again  ;D ) Personal choice at the end of the day. Only that person knows what is financially best for them.  :y
I took the Jetex route as they fabricate a copy of the original exhaust. The middle boxes are the same shape, the rear box is the same shape and they still manage to get twin exits to look decent and keep the noise levels down.
As said Jimbob, pity I'm not closer to you. What will win, your head or your heart.  ;D ;D :y

I think I am swaying towards the stainless.

I dont chop and change cars, I buy one, and look after it well until I feel it is really uneconomic etc.
I am looking at a long life out of this yet, and also looking to LPG as well.
A lot of my trips are very short, I know this is not good for exhausts, and feel the cheap steelies wont take kindly to it, the stainless is guarantee'd while I own it.

My current back box is gm, with added ventilation, Ill be keeping the chrome ends regardless, you never know when they will come in handy.

Ljay took my car to work today....sounded like a tractor as she drove off :(  really need to order something.
At least I have hers, with an old style, good, genuine GM system to compare it to, So may be able to record some decent comparisons.

Know your problem, shortly after I got Miggy went through all the hellish drone problems
Then had 2 failed replacement options including a new GM replacement
Finally went along with a member's advice and went to a firm who specialise in custom fit exhausts
Asked them to do a nice quiet exhaust with rolled edge twin tail pipes and also do the O2 sensor mod
These specs they did although I was worried by the fact the system has only one centre box
They reassured me this was Ok and commented that the simplified spec was much better
I've since found this to be correct when working under Miggy
I had this done in Jan2009 and since had a nice quite exhaust without problems
In fact the exhaust contributes quiet a bit to the pleasure I get from driving smoothy Miggy
Must admit the cost at the time of 481.85 stung a lot
Suppose if you intend as I do to keep the car then it has to be worth it
The work I think was done through a franchise called Longlife Exhausts by a local firm Tony Banks Longlife
Might be worth trying a google Exhausts.Longlife.co.uk hope you get it sorted Ok

So many conflicting stories out there!  gonna end up a coin toss at this rate ;D

Dont have a problem with the value of either, most worried about making an expensive mistake...
Firm believer in buy cheap, buy twice.  Dont want to risk it the other way either!

Pity theres not someone local with one.

Might be worth drive down south to YZ250, get much better picture seeing it in flesh so to speak. Also given the cost of stainless system? Worth the petrol tokens?

I'm not that far from The Boy (or Tunnie when he's visiting the homeland) but if I demo'd it to them you may not trust their opinions. Hmmm  ;D ;D
Not sure how I can help otherwise as a video clip may not give the right impression.  :-\  All I can say is that on previous cars in my youth I've had Peco, Powerflow and various other makes and found them all irratating on a long journey. The Jetex is not like that, otherwise it would be for sale on here.  ;D ;D ;) ;)

Where's Andy B when you need him.  ;D ;D  He's got the same pipes as me on a saloon. Assume noise level would be similar.  :-\

Thoughts...
GM current crop of tc systems. Way over priced £314. For the life of them they need to be cheaper than eternal. About half the price actually. Quiet, but not as pleasent a noise as oe.

Find a nice back box, possibly used irmscher or similar make on ebay, with othet eternal type mid sections if available?

All the stainless custom systems "i have heard" are overly loud ime.

No experience of jetex.

I bit the bullet and bought a new irmscher back box from German eBay for my 3.2 estate. Needed some dikkin about to ensure free from towbar but working fine with GM centre sections. When they give up the ghost will replace with joe normal stainless as, by that time, will be the last time I will be doing it.

Couple of hundred for the back box, about half that for future replacement centre sections from local stainless supplier.

Sound is, to me, near standard with a pleasant rasp when booted. It, to. E honest, that's not what this part time pensioner is currently looking for anyway.  :y
