just picked up new cranksensor from vx dealer

got home opened box and i have a very funny feeling that its the wrong one
may be completely wrong but looking at the instructions on howto fit a crank sensor
it says to run the wire
there is a very short lead on the new sensor probably the size of a hand

any ideas

part number on the box is gm 9118140
would this be the right part for my omega

thanks

According to my reading of the EPC .. the cranksensor you need for the 2.6 - Y26SE engine - is 90540743

Now I've just been out and checked my spare.. same sensor for the 3.2 engine and it has that number on it. I have had the sensor 3 1/2 years in its box however !!

9118140 is coming up as a CAM shaft sensor for various engines
- including the omega 2.6/3.2 ....  looks like you have a CAM sensor not a CRANK sensor

:(

Warning .. I'm not an expert on the EPC and might be wrong .. but on this occasion I feel fairly confident !!

how incompatant are vx dealers

just phoned them to say what u just told me and guess what

thay ordered a bloody cam shaft sensor now how frigging hard is it to order the proper part
not as if there was a big cue of people waiting to be served it was only me.

now got to wait till tuesday to get the proper part

sorry rant over lol

thanks for pointing that out though

would have been waiting longer if i had waited till later till my mechanic tried to fit it

Aircon makes no difference.Providing you have the correct torx socket and you have already located the connector at the top where it plugs into (can be a bit hard to find first time) its a 10 minute job, if you follow the guide.

if you had aircon
