I've been watching a story book on E-Bay for my teenaged son, it's a discontinued book, rare, but, affordable at around a tenner. I watched it until the last minute and won it at 18 seconds to spare, paid for it, great communications from the seller and we've received it today in excelent packaging. I've duly left the appropriate 5 star feedback etc..
Then, I received a message from another E-Bayer, who had previously bidded on this item at an earlier stage in the auction, less than £3 with no further bids since. :-?
They said, in a nut shell, that, I should be ashamed of my self for late bidding and wondered if I was now going to go upstairs to raid my kid's money boxes... " I did that several weeks ago!"

I believe that auctions work in a way that, the highest bid on the fall of the hammer, however late wins the article :-/
