What a day of it
« on: 04 December 2011, 21:20:00 »

Went to dagenham this morning, went up there, all was well. Came home sitting at 50 mph. All of a sudden, fling up comes the bonnet, huge bang, interior mirror comes flying off smacks me in the head, grill goes flying, lorry up my arse, couldn't see where I was going, managed to get to the hard shoulder anyway, and limp the car 45 miles home. Anyway to cut a long story short the Beemer now looks like this.

The roof looks much worse than it does in the pictures, it's truly knackered.

And here it ripped the bonnet, how at 50 MPH I'll never know, and it was a genuine 50 MPH!

Mate, the main thing is YOU

at 50mph, in any car, no matter how big or new, you are lucky to be alive.

I know you'll be feeling crap, but take comfort :y

Is this the car you've had for about 2 weeks, with the 'bonnet problem'?

At least you are alive to tell the tale .. :y :y :y

Not nice .. but just think of the forces involved ... beemer bonnet is a large surface area and a car speed of 50 Mph is the equivalent of Gale Force 9 or 10 .... sufficient to do damage to buildings... add to that the instant shock and inability to see where you are going .... a recipe for a major catastrophe .... but you walked away intact ...

Cars can be replaced ..people can't.

It'll only be going to a proper BMW workshop, nowhere else. BMW only.

Thanks for the kind messages people, much appreciated :y

Del, having experienced similar in my Rangie a few years back (although I was only doing about 40mph) I can fully understand how terrifying that situation is. Good news is that you're OK though mate :y

I'd highly recommend just binning today's undies though :-X

Glad that no one was injured in this - hope you're back on the road soon.

What a bloody shame.
