Things slowly getting back to normal.
« on: 13 December 2011, 17:27:28 »

My father passed away peacefully on the 30th November. He is now buried in the grounds of an idyllic 12th century Norman church overlooking the magnificent welsh countryside. I think he would have approved.

This has been a turbulent and emotionally charged time for us all. Anyone who has lost someone close to them will understand how I (we) family Opti feel.

I arranged Dad's funeral even though I live nearly two hundred miles away. I was happy to do so.

As mentioned in a previous post, both my elderly parents had trusted what little money they had to an AXA Sunlife Over 50 plan.This was to cover any funeral expenses. I now have  full access to all monies paid in and paid out. It makes sobering reading.

My father paid in £12 a month from May 1990 to November 2011......The exact total being £3108 over a 21 year period. The policy will only contribute £1186 to his funeral costs.....(38% of the total premiums paid in) :( :( :( :(

I have written to AXA Sunlife demanding that they explain why the return (negative return) is so poor. I need to do this, and receive a reply, before I take my concerns to the FSA.........who hopefully will put an end to these scams that dupe the elderly out of their savings. ??? ??? ???

Sorry to hear of your loss.
It's incomprehensible to put money into an account, only to get considerably less in return. It would have been safer to put the money under the mattress if that's the case.
This will just add to the anger at a time you should be grieving or coming to terms with your loss. I hope you get a satisfactory resolve to this.

PS.
Not used to your posts being sad or sensible. (no offence intended)   :)  Look forward to getting the old Opti back.  ;)

Regards
Alan

My condolences for your loss.

My father passed 9 years ago on the 7th Jan. One month before my son was born. Still miss him to this day, arguing with my elder brother is just not the same somehow  ;)

I quite often feel he is with me especially when I am stuck to resolve something and the answer suddenly comes to me. He always had a way of finding the solution. Hope it will be the same for you.

Often tell stories of him to my kids to keep his memory, alive which helps to keep me smiling instead of sad

That is sad but not unexpected news Opti and I am indeed sorry to hear it.

Pondering this experience we commonly refer to as life I often think of its logical conclusion - and what will happen thereafter. Of course there are so many things to consider depending on one's viewpoint but I feel moved in the following words by Edwin Leibfreed;

For death is but a passing phase of Life;
A change of dress, a disrobing;
A birth into the unborn again;
A commencing where we ended;
A starting where we stopped to rest;
A crossroad of Eternity;
A giving up of something, to possess all things.
The end of the unreal, the beginning of the real.

However, irrespective of whatever faith we hold - or do not hold - the following must be a universal truth;

Our dead are never dead to us until we have forgotten them.
George Eliot

Here’s hoping for happier days ahead for you all.
