London's like the milky way, though. It's in the centre and everywhere is getting further away. Must be. When I moved to Alton in 1997ish it was 48 minutes to get to Waterloo. Now it's 1h30. :o

Either that or the slam-door trains were actually faster than the Siemens cr@p they have now. :D

Remember reading when the Slam Door's were first replaced, the replacements had a breakdown every 4.5k miles  :o

That was compared to 60k for the slam doors!  :o

Siemens trains have been great - vast improvement on slam door and I have been doing the journey for 29 years - Farnborough Main has a pretty good service with a couple of trains first stop Waterloo so you are there in 34 mins or so. Used to go from Sunningdale when there was a decent service in the early 1980s but as has been said that line from Ascot is now a total disaster.

Our Siemens stock sat in a siding for a year or two after delivery because they realised the scalextric setup wasn't up to the current draw of the new trains and needed to be upgraded. ::)

Maybe my opinion would be different if I wasn't just an occasional traveller but the new stock just seems to be deliberately uncomfortable. Lights too bright, air con fans blowing flat out regardless of temperature, seats too upright, and those awful announcements every couple of minutes reminding you not to leave your stuff on the train, etc. >:(

Afraid they are setup for capacity, rather than comfort  :(
