No, goosed stat until a few weeks ago......engine wont have been hot when on a run as a result

Great, Thanks Mark, I will clean the muck out of the filler to avoid it going anywhere serious, and try and figure out how to get into the breather box at the back.

Breather box will sort itself as it gets hot, its the breathers that need doing as they dont run at the block temperatures

The breather box behind cylinder 5 is mentioned as an add on in the guide. Its not worth removing it. If it is blocked, as mine was, force it through with a suitable thin blunt instrement. Making sure said blunt intrument doesnt fall in through to the sump of course. :)

Thanks I'll re-read the guide. Lat time I tried I could just about get my hand to it, but no way could I get a spanner down there. Maybe if I removed the scuttle first...
