Tiny difference in running costs, the V6 is a bit more powerful too. Personally I'd get a 2.6, however a 2.2 manual can be pretty nippy when needed to be.

Really? My V6 does 20mpg vs 28 on my 2.2, both auto, both well looked after. Plus parts for the 2.2 seem to be a bit cheaper. And fewer things have actually broken on the 2.2 vs the V6 which always has something or the other going wrong. The above figures are in greater london traffic. On the open road I get 450miles from a tankful in the 2.2 vs 275 in the V6.

As petrol prices head upwards I seem to be reaching for the 2.2 all the time. But I don't do any towing malarkey so can't comment on that aspect.

Hi Dan,

It was a reluctant sale mate but needs must at the time and it needed money spending on it i.e Service and Cambelt etc..... I got the car cheap at £700 and got back what I paid for it for but I wish I'd have kept it to be honest..

I'm having a good look around ebay, autotrader, gumtree to see what's out there at the mo mate but money is tight lol.....

I think the 2.2 is a proper work horse, under rated aswell. I had one for 3years only thing apart from wear and tear was the cambelt/waterpump change. And the 4pot is easier in my view to work with??  :y :y oh but mine was a auto if that helps..

I've got a 2.2, run it for past 7 years, never missed a beat. Dead easy to work on, things like the stat are a 5 min job and so simple. V6 is a bit of a pig to work on.

Now got a 3.2, loads more power. Its actually not far off in fuel useage! On petrol (before i LPG'd 2.2) i'd get around 30-34mpg average, on similar runs, 27mpg in the 3.2, although mixture of town/motorway drops it to 24mpg.

Main running cost difference will be insurance, V6 is considerably more to insure. Unless you are an old fart!  :D

I, like Tunnie and Opti, am a young(ish) stud at 29.

So it's definitely the V6 you need if you want to impress friends and snag the girl of your dreams  ;D ;D ;D ;D :y :y :y :y :y

The 4 pot is definitely more economical and easier to work on I've found whereas the v6 is a bit of a pig. However, when you pop the 2.5/2.6 into sport mode and boot it. . . and the multi-rams come in . . .  :o    O Joy!!!!!  ;)

Had a 2.2 prev., now have 2.5 - petrol diff. not much in it but the v6 is more tricky to do work on. Also depends on your main style of driving - ie. motorway, stop start traffic. I found the 2.2 didn't have enough power when wanting to accelerate onto motorways/going up hills and that the v6 is much more comfortable in handling this. V6 for me, but not by much due to more things to get out the way when working in the engine. I believe the 2.6 has a bit less clutter than the 2.5 so that should help.

I found the big factor on insurance costs to be anything BEFORE full facelift was consistently £3-400 cheaper to insure than a newer equivalent. My td's and v6 were/are all within £100 of each other, anything facelifted shot up to over a grand!!! :-\
