Purchasing omega

Hi guys , Newbie here,

I have just purchase a Vauxhall Omega Elite 2003 of Ebay.
I'm going to pick up the motor tommorrow is there any problems i should look out for as i have never own one before.  common faults ect..

Suspension wishbones, Oil leaks from rocker gaskets, check all the locks work on all four doors with the fob.

Thats a start!

Read up on the "pedal trick" ... make sure all the warning lights are actually working ... it is not unknown for the bulbs to be removed to hide faults.....

Check cambelt history.Belt and tensioners must be changed every 40,000 miles or 4 years,whichever comes first.

I saw that on ebay a few days ago. As said all of the above with a good service history. Omegas like oil changes every 3 to 5000 miles to keep them running at their best :y

Welcome to the best car owners forum on the Internet.

DO expect to spend some more money, it's par for the course for owning such a great vehicle. Odds are something, somewhere will need attending too.
Omega's and especially the Elite are packed with things that could possibly play up sooner or later...it's a joy to suss them out, seek advice and heck...even fix them yourself.

I've personally done more DIY on my Elite these past 2 years than I have ever on all my previous cars and 30 years previous.

 As stated, check for oil leaks...when the engines cold, run your fingers around the top of the engine, JUST under the cam covers. You'll be VERY lucky NOT
to have oil on your fingers BUT not the end of the world...cam gaskets will need changing.

As long as she sounds and drives happy then you should be ok BUT most importantly, on this forum..read, read read and read again !

EVERYTHING "Omega" is covered here somewhere...the advice priceless.

if changing cambelt & tensioners good idea to change water pump as well IMO  :y

check breathers for being clean and scuttle drain for blockage also.you will find how to guides on this forum  ;)

I'm surprised non-one from this forum has not had a go at you by saying you should have done all your enquiries etc. before purchasing the car.
Because that is what happened to me last year - had many people saying I should have asked the seller all the questions I needed rather than buying it first then asking forum members if there are any common problems etc. I should look out for.

Oh well such is life.

Car looks well looked after so hope it goes well for you.

Picked up the car today all went well, very nice and smooth drive.

Went from Gloucester to kent with out any faults, really enjoyed the drive. the V6 2.6 had some nice power:) but i did take it easy :)
Did notice the rear window blind was not working, could here it clicking when pushing the button, but oh well.

Couple of little scuffs on bumper so might try some silver t-cut tommorrow.

They sometimes need a little help if they've rarely been used. Use it or loose it ................ obviously when you've got it working.  :y :y

Easy to replace bumper if T-Cut doesn't work and you're anal like me (no jokes, Albs  ;D ;D ;D)
