3.2 LPG Auto Owners - how does your MPG compare?
« on: 06 February 2012, 19:09:42 »

I have a 3.2 Auto MV6 with the Stag 300 set up.

On a recent run, to WIM, over to Gosport, back home, and then to Dudley and back the next day... mostly motorway or dual carriageway at national speed limit - from full to empty, I managed to get exactly 380 miles to a tank, which was filled with 79 litres of LPG.

I work this out as being a shade under 22mpg. Driving was careful, no sport mode or kickdown, with a few spells of overtaking, all around national speed limit.

How does this compare with yours?

Cheers,
James

That sounds bloody good mate!

When I picked my mig up, drove back pretty much all motorway and used about £70 of petrol covering 320miles or there abouts :-\

So therefore, 380 miles to £60 of LPG, doesn't mean THAT much of a saving, against running on petrol  :-\

I get about 350 miles to £100 of petrol.  I reckon I save about a 1/3rd, which is the expected saving

The way I see it, is this.

On this run, on petrol, I would have got 32mpg. No if's or buts - I've done that sort of route many times, and calculated that economy myself (not relying on mid).

So - If I do the trip I described on petrol, at 32mpg:

380 miles, at 32 mpg, requires 11.88 gallons - which is 54.03 litres. At 131.9p per litre, this is £71.27, which works out at 18.75p per mile

If I do the trip described on LPG, at 22mpg:

380 miles, at 22mpg, requires 17.27 gallons - which is 78.59 litres. At 77.0p per litre (cost of LPG here) this is £61.22, which works out at 16.11p per mile

SO over the course of the trip, I have saved  £10.05

For each mile running on LPG, I save 2.64 pence

Surely this highlights, the LPG saving, is not *THAT* good, anymore?

I know for sure some will say 32mpg is too optimistic - it's not - I know my car, and I know this is what it would do.

Seems that, on the above figures, 31.25% is the economy loss on gas. Is the general concensus not 10 to 15%?

Maybe something is up with my LPG?

No faults in the engine ECU, runs like a dream on either fuel.

Hence asking for your comparisons :y

Cheers,
James

An extra 60+ miles for at least £10 cheaper is a good saving in my book still :y

79 ltrs lpg @ 70p p/ltr = £55.30 for 380 miles

£70 petrol for 320 miles

Nowt wrong with that in my view :y

I dream for 32mpg. Never, ever managed that from my 3.2. Ever.

I have noticed that driving style doesn't have as much effect on LPG.  Also, 3.0 seems to be more economical than 3.2, petrol or gas...

I would agree with your second line TB :y

The question is purely academic... I don't really care about the MPG, if I did, I wouldn't have a 3.2 ;D

I never ever got anything like 32 mpg on petrol  .. even on a long run driving like miss daisy... but on a long run on LPG (solo) I have regularly achieved 24 mpg.

I still reckon I'm running at a saving of around 10p per mile, and thats over 40,000 miles and slightly under 4 years.

More to do with a single pipe after the cats instead of two pipes I think.

I regularly see 32 and at best 35.9 out of my manual 2.6, albeit I know it's missing 578cc  ::)

I wonder what the factory fitted 'dual fuel' Omega's are like, especially how 'factory fitted' the kits really were?
