When a dog pisses up your leg, do you go Oh FFS! or..... smile & be glad it wasn't in your mouth! ;D :
Don't forget Oofers, it's very easy to let your 'fingers do the talking' but your brain must be in gear first! ;)
Life is just too short to see everything in a negative way, so before posting, my advise is to smoke something leafy from the garden first or have a stiff Gin & it! :y

But what do I use if I dont drink Gin or smoke stuff fro the garden ::) ;D ;D ;D

So, how can we allow some level of fun, without being abusive to members?  We have a global audience, so we cannot have the mindless BNP mentality that was creeping in.

The jokes became overwhelming - page after page of 'jokes' that weren't even funny 20yrs ago, so got shifted off into 1 thread. Politics threads became the same way - thread after thread of politics that only interested a handful.

Speaking, for once, as an Admin, we can't have a chat section swamped with a single genre - that looks even more cliquey that normal banter.

So, any ideas?

As for DLK and LJay - if you have differences, either sort them out privately, or learn to ignore each other  >:(.

LJay - don't get hung up on people's status, everyone here is equal, regardless of status - thats been one of our founding principles. By its nature, we (OOF - the forum as a whole) need a handful of members to assist with the running. This does not and will not preclude those who volunteered/were volunteered from having their own opinion, which they have the same right as anyone else to express, within the rules of course. Reading the thread, I get the impression that you would have ignored it, but for some random status under his name? Respond by PM if you need to reply. Any admin (except 'Admin' ;)) will happily listen to your grievence.

What we will not tolerate is macilous posts towards other members. Those breaking that rule will likey see a temporary or permenent ban. Nobody is excluded from that, Administrators included.  >:(

Now do I win the prize for being the only Admin to get banned ::)

i've spent 10 years managing a forum of over 90'000 members.  ( www.soundonsound.com/forum )  I "retired" from Moderator status   at new year, this year, having already spent stepped down as an admin a year or so  earlier when health problems proper floored me.

these things are cyclic,   general discussion is pottering along....    although some people do like to take the fun out of it.

some people could learn to better interpret things on the printed page that might be more obvious in person....  body language, facial expression,  tone of voice ,  eye twinkles.... etc... all make saying something a bit risque or Tongue in cheek ,  a survivable experience in the real world,   but without all those contextual clues ,  saying the same thing in just text on a page can easily start a needless fight,   unless the other party can read those cues in between the lines...

other people could learn to shut the hell up,  know when to walk away, and when to , if not apologise, then at least back down....

and a number of  people could do with a humor upgrade.,

despite all that,  this is still a damn nice place to hang out....

Ljay, if you want to know what bully boy mods are really like....    you should try some of the places i have to inhabit for work purposes...    Daz is a great big softie in comparison.....    by anyone's standards...   hell,   such things might even be said to be the root of OOF's existence....  am i the only person to remember what it was like before OOF   ????   when we were on assorted other Vx forums/???

i'll grant you he's not perfect, but no one is....

furthermore,   being a Moderator does NOT mean one is not entitled to an opinion,  or a sense of humor, or feelings....       they are still human,  still members,  and can still wear Pink crocs if they so choose. .

which is entirely what you've recently being implying is not the case,  and that Moderator status carries with it some vow of chastity and vulcan like control of one's mental state....   .....

Moderators are members too.,,...    they simply help with the housekeeping.

or at least that's my view....

I did take it to PM, suggest you read the logs, Alert Mod etc.  It was your wonderful mod who decided to bring it to a public slanging match!  He was the one being malicious.

I'm not saying he isn't but to refuse to discuss whatever problem he has with me privately and instead slag me off publicly is not on.  Would appear sexism is alive and well, lads stick together and don't bother to get things out in the open with one of the few female members you haven't managed to intimidate into leaving!

Well done!
