Omega General Help / charging battery
« on: 20 December 2011, 13:59:11 »
hi guys, been a while since I posted here...............

I like to lurk and visit now and again but for a while now not had any probs with the car so had nothing to say and as for offering advice, well this forum has much better sources than me....  ;D

the car is a four door omega facelift year 2000 on a V plate, 2.5 auto CDX spec.

here's the question....

the car is being used for short journeys and the battery seems nearly flat so if I remove the battery to charge it up will I still be able to open the door(S) and boot? ----- to replace the battery afterwards or if I need to get something out of the car?

not noticed any chripping noises.........

Not too bothered about the alarm not sounding for a few days as both work and home are very secure - yet who investigates a car alarm nowadays anyhow?

So, what a new powersounder gonna cost me?

chances are its the powersounder thats gone tits up, usually due to its own batteries being buggered. :y

thanks for that - can you enlighten me on my others points?

did the bonnet switch already with no difference.

just removed the power sounder and the additional horn bolted next to it. Just undid the 2 nuts holding the bracket to the suspension turret and pulled the whole thing out.
Wrapped both leads in a plastic bag and taped up next to the brake/clutch res to keep them dry.

Had a look at the guide post on this forum and it all went well.

Took more time getting the wipers back in the right place on the screen !

So whats next?
Has this disarmed the alarm or will it still cause the indicators to flash ?

Is it a case of replacing the unit and hope that fixes it ?

What do they cost ?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / HELP ! Bloody Alarm will not set.

For no apparent reason my alarm has decided to keep going off.
Sometimes it lasts for nearly and hour but generally it trips after about 5 - 10 minutes of me locking the car.

Can I fix it to get some sleep tonight?
Can I disable the alarm bit of locking up the car?
Am I doooooooooooooooommmmmmmmed?

can you get the same type of fault for any other reason?

well, changed the plugs today - what a bugger to do the passenger side bank! Pretty sure the plugs, leads and diss pack are fine what with the belts I was getting when trying to run the car with one plug disconnected. As each plug was diss'ed the car run even worse so I'm pretty sure they are ok.
Problem still here but after re-fitting the old crank sensor - again - the fault code is gone.
Still running rough - it feels like the car is running with the choke stuck out!
Fuel consumption has risen and she still slightly rocks the car at tickover and sounds harse and raspy on accelleration and speed and sounds / feels like it is missing on one cylinder.
I am sure the temp reading has dropped from 90 degrees to 80-85.

Ideas please guys....

is there some way to check the diss pack, leads and plugs? - don't want to spend that money if it turns out they are not the problem...

plugs and leads done recently - never had an issue with the diss pack...

would that not show a code?

only shows that one about the rpm.

Omega General Help / Lumpy running - like hiccups..

I have a problem with the motor guys and advice needed.

It started a week or so ago a would feel like a stumble then carry on. Started to get more frequent and more noticable. Then today it has become constant, like a stumble or running lumpy. When the car is stationary and running I do a miniture version of bouncing up and down on a Massey Ferguson tractor!

Checked for codes and got - no engine rpm signal.
checked up and suggested to change crank sensor.

Did that and no difference.

Measured the resistance of the old one in-situ and got about 96 ohms. Measured the new one out of the box and got 930-something. Measured the old one again off the car and got 560-something.

Anyway neither old or new sensor make any difference.

Suggestions?

potentially - it could be that valve.

When I was loosing water it took me ages to find it and it would only do it when the engine was fully and completely warmed up.

the bloody valve had a crack in it and it was spraying the water up towards the underside of the bonnet and onto the top of the engine - so it could have filled up the plug holes in that scenario.

Omega General Help / Re: Won't Start :(
« on: 20 May 2010, 22:20:07 »
had to change mine today. It had caused 2 cut outs during 2 u-turns leaving me in the middle of the road and 2 failure to start from outside my house in the last 3 weeks.

it cost 50 or 60 from the local dealer - list price was 72.

can't remember exact price but all up with replacement o-ring for the sump plug, 6 litres of 10-40 semi synthetic and a filter it cost me £101.60p.

Making the change was fairly simple.

after having the tracking and cambers done - front and back on passenger side was well out - I had 2 new tyres on the front.

Whilst the car was on the ramp I had a good look around for oil leaking.

The only place that now is wet with oil is around the bottom at the back of the engine, seemingly under the oil filter housing, definately not the filter or housing or mating surface to the block, around the sump and across the bottom yet I have no idea where it might by coming from.

It is not enough to cause a smell or drip from the car and there seems no effect, yet, on the oil level as shown on the dipstick. It is enough to see it and make the area wet and shiney.

Suggestions ?
