My son (18) filled his car with petrol and his debit card was refused. He had no other form of payment, We told him not to have credit cards etc. They issued him with a hand writtrn note to return to pay the bill. I told him not to go back  ;D His mum said he should, and give him his due he did go back and pay in cash that same evening. I would have made them wait a week at least. I know it is not there fault but they should be claiming off natwest.

We should implement a national bank, 100% owned  by the taxpayers of this country. It would be compelled to lend money to small business...........rather than the f**k you we're in it for ourselves attitude of the big banks. No bonus payments for failure will be tolerated, as is currently the norm........just an honest days pay for an honest days work. (How many bank bosses will know what that is?). Taking a four hour lunch, followed by 18 holes of golf, is not considered hard work by people who live in the real world.

Banks should be a servant of the people, and not the master's of an elected government.

I feel sure that Albs and Nickbat will concur. :y

No, I am not a great fan of banks either. This Nat West problem is a retail bank issue not the gamblers side. Shouldn't happen in this day and age. Don't they have redundancy built in?

Spanish banks are no better. They closed my local branch. Went to draw money out of the next nearest branch 20 miles away and the machine just whirred before spitting the card out. Cost me 4 euros to draw out a 100 at a different ATM. Money for old rope.

Bank of Scotland always seem to crop up in the back ground of these fiascos.

I once went into a branch of T*at west when sussing out which bank to move to from Lloyds. Clearly their advertising is utter rubbish. I went to HSBC in the end and have had very few problems. Those I have had have been delt with in a professional manner.

Clearly there will be somebody immediately pop up and say they have had nothing but agro with HSBC. But can only speak as I find.

Try,being the operative word. They seem to be the only remaining financial institution i have encountered with any form of customer service.

...although it has to be said, any bank can have a computer glitch like this. Presumably?

problem is not the banks or the computers.. :-\

its the incompetent, irresponsible staff who causes trouble.. I worked for them in the past :-X

but must add their managers who live in the dreams cause more trouble than the staff :(

honestly, outsourcing mostly done on source code level except customer help lines..

as I witnessed problems do occur on batch jobs which requires operator intervention or systems maintenance ::) ;D

Any company that uses computers will get glitches but normally they are resolved (at least with us) within a couple of hours, whatever has happened to the Nat West is either a major system fault or a serious balls up by their IT team

Or an attack which they will never admit to.
