England once again booted out of the European Cup
« on: 25 June 2012, 06:24:59 »

 >:( Once again it has come to pass what I expected to happen. The matches first 3 minutes was brilliant, the rest of the match was a joke. After watching the story hearing the comments made by Hodgson ( England Team Coach) this morning and  other comments made by the so called players after the debacle of a penalty shoot out against Italy it brought to my attention that if there is but one thing that the team are good at, both past and present, is that of coming up with excuses as to why they lost. I say lost because that is what it was, they were no where near good enough despite their luxury lifestyle and way over the top salaries they missed many opportunities and to all intents and purposes were no more 'tired' before the penalty shootout began than the Italian team were! It is time that the so called team, and a team it is not because too many believe they are the sole star of the game, got its act together or stopped playing as a team altogether. Rooney, that highly prized one said he was disappointed! Disappointed does not even come anywhere close to how the supporters feel who had spent so much of their hard earned and probably ill affordable funds to get there and support this once again team of losers............ This team of losers should be paid what they are really worth, the basic living wage most of the country get because they are worth only (if) that.
In fact now I will no longer watch the 'beautiful game' because one thing is certain: It is not beautiful to watch a slaughter like that debacle and it is spreading throughout the whole of the game when played by this country. If the players wish to be idolised then they should begin to deserve it! A final question.... Are the players interested or concerned that many supporters have spent money they could ill afford or will they be interested only in the 'fame' they did not achieve?

That'll be the choice of the supporters then. And a wild presumption on your part. I would imagine that many supporters could afford it, hence them being there.

Nevertheless, England did not play well after the 30 minutes mark or thereabouts, but it also has to be said, credit to Italy. They were good. Better and better as time went by. Although some of the England players did not have remarkable games, some made sterling efforts and played very well.

It's not as if there was much expectation from this England side before the tournament though, and I would never have thought that they could hold Italy to a draw before the game to be fair. Most of the England supporters must have known this and still spent their money supporting them, to their credit.

But it has shown that English football is a good few centuries behind the likes of Spain and Germany. We need to be honest with ourselves and start to catch up if we're ever going to come close to winning a tournament again IMHO

first well done England I for one didn't think that we would do as well as we did I couldn't see them getting out of the group :)

second I blame the fact there are far too few home grown players simply because of too many foreign players in premiership, I think clubs are to quick to snap up foreign players and over looking some real English talent, but that's just my opinion :)

well done also to the English fans who travelled and behaved themselves not fighting, many a time do they go abroad and cause trouble in the eyes of the media when it's not usually them that start the trouble, I think when trouble does start it is some media guys that pretend to be fans just to start a fight to sell papers :)

I would like them to play on till one side scored a goal, no matter how long  it took.

There is something rather strange about our success rate in penalty shoot outs.  Sixth time out on penalties since 1990?  I can't believe that the guys don't practice. I would imagine that the team each took hundreds of successful penalties in the build up to the tournament. If they didn't that could be the first place to start. A hundred each morning and no pay till each person achieves a 90% success rate.

Two years till the World Cup?

Personally, I though England, did as well as could be expected with the current crop of players. My expectation was that they would do well to get out of the group stages, which to their credit, they did with the most points and then lose in the quarter finals, which they did, but they battled all the way to penalties. We are in the top 5 to 10 teams in Europe, not the top 5.

I thought the Italy match was finely balanced for the first 20 minutes and from that that point the Italians asserted themselves more and more, but England still created the odd threat and opportunity.

We have to accept that our system for producing world class talent is lacking and that is down the FA to resolve this with their new Football Academy.

The team IMHO gave it their all and you could not ask anymore from them. I though some of the players played consistently well, Gerrard, Parker, Terry, Glen Johnston, Joe Hart spring to mind. We need more talented individuals in the team, some of the younger players need more experience at this level, our clubs need to be much more positive over friendlies as this is one of the few opportunities for the team to practice.

Personally, I think Roy Hodgson had a good first tournament, so lets get behind him and support him in improving the team, qualifying for the 2014 World Cup and hopefully starting to bridge the gap so we become one of the world's very best top teams.

They did practice their penalties this time apparently, or so the commentator said anyway. Same old result though....

As Ashley Young stepped up, I said to the missus that he was going to miss - he was absolutely appalling in that match. Didn't expect Cole to miss though, he's an arse, but a good player  :-\

Ashley Young should never have been in the team after the first game him and Milner were absolute garbage call themselves wingers more like w@"£ers.Once Rooney was available to play it should have been Carroll and Welbeck up front and Rooney in the hole behind them,1 penalty shoot out win from seven, instead of playing for penalties Hodgson should have gone for the win in 90 mins,as we were never going to win on pens.
