2 Litre Migs
« on: 14 September 2008, 17:48:04 »

I'd like to know what people think of 2 litre migs?

I keep seeing them for sale all the time.

Is the V6 better?

What about fuel economy etc.?

Thanks for any advice!

I quite like mine...economy is about what i expected being an Auto (30mpg or just over).  Insurance is cheaper as well.

Not a ball of fire like i'd expect a V6 to be, but still keeps up with traffic easily.  Shame you don't get the V6 growl, though..

No problems with cam cover gaskets or oil coolers to have nightmares about, although the breather under the throttle body is a sod to get to.

All in all, a cheaper way to Mig ownership, i'd say...

i have a 2.2 manual, i like it.

4 pots, fresh oil makes one heck of a difference. Mines on 112k now, and its sooo much smoother than when i bought it with 84k.

However if i was buying again, i would go for the 3.0 without question.

30mpg is easy, when its driven really, really hard, worse i can do is 26mpg over tank.

Thats on my 9 mile commute, doing 100+  ::) hard away from the junctions 6k rpm....

Did a tank full of that on BP ultimate.

Taking it normally on this tank, should see 420 miles  :y

Why the 3.0 by the way?

Are they not just gas guzzlers?

Pretty much - they're no slouch, unless you compare them to a V6..

For me, quick enough for everyday traffic - and get me out of trouble if needed.  For speed, I have other cars..my Mig is for (reasonably) economical, but very comfortable commuting - which it does amicably.

Downside?  Struggles towing a big load - but that only happens a few times a year so I just leave it in Sport mode!

IMHO 2.0ltr ok but I would look for the manual box. With autobox tend to use "sport" option unless you like a leisurely drive ;D

If you had a choice would you buy a 2 litre or a V6?

V6 every time, 2.5 is just as economical as a 2.0 imho

Depends on which way you are going ( or coming!). 2 litres is OK if it's a first mig and you are used to driving a smaller car. Trading down from a V6 you will notice the loss in power --- all hangs on what you are used to really

4 pots are easy to work on for us normal folk, sooooo much space!

I don't do many miles, so i could easily afford 3.0 running costs.

Trouble is my 2.2 is proving so reliable at the moment, belt was done at 100k, GM zorst 2 years ago, its running very, very smooth, close to V6. (oil change every 3 months or so for 2 years has done that)

Tyres still good, no rust, i just can't sell it  :'(

If it died tommorow for what ever reason, i would replace with a 3.0 ....

I have the 3.0 v6, and love it!

If I got another mig, and wanted something quick, I would get a V6. However, If i wasn't fussed about the speed, I would go for the Diesel versions (Pref 2.5TD). (Unless the 2.0 was cheap and LPGed!)

I've never been in a 2.0 Omega so all I can compare it to is a 1.8 Vectra which I had for a year, which im guessing will be about the same as the mig performance wise due to it been a little bit lighter. The vectra wasn't slow, but it wasn't quick either - You just had to work it hard when you wanted it to shift!

Engine wise, the 2.0 will be easy to work on, which in the long run will save you money (unless you fix it yourself).

Both engines suffer from leaking rocker gaskets for example, however its a 10 min job on the 4 pots!  :y

Driven with a steady right foot, my 3.0 is about 3-4 mpg down on my old 2.0. If you do a lot of town miles the difference is worse.

Not as bad as I expected. The 2.0 used to spend longer on full throttle due to the lower power.

The V6 sounds much nicer than the 2.0, especially higher up the rev range  ;D

So if I bought a 3.0 what would the mpg be like?
