My Nexens are OK in dry, but then the tractor ain't the quickest car...  ...OK in the wet until recently, but think I have found out why its been tail happy recently.  Omegatoy probably knows as well ;D

A touch of 4 wheel steer? Or have you been lubricating the tarmac again?  ;)

I find Michelins bloody awful (thankfuly I got rid of the last pair of these a few weeks ago!). Certainly not worth the stupidly high price tag!

Also beware of Avons, they seem to suffer as they wear (as advised by more than one member!).

Currently running Dunlops which seem very good (and a good price) but have had good results from Contis and Uniroyals in the past on the Omega

Had Toyos on the CDX, this doesn't get the MV6 treatment and they bearly made 12k, now got a set of Verdesteins on there that cost me £376 all in, seem ok so far, but then done less than 1K on them

Had ZZ3's and ZV3's, the ZV's lasted better than the ZZ's but still only 10k out of a set.

Falken's were sh1te like driving on ice!!

Got a couple of Pirelli P7 Neros (as i know one of the  Pirelli UK customer service reps and got 65% discount!!) these have worn very quickly over the first 6K, but this apparently is the tyre design, the last third of the tread is alot harder, wouldn't pay retail for them.

To be honest the ZV3's are prob the best i have had

Fitted Pirelli P6000 all round a few months back because the last set were OK and lasted for about 25,000.  Just over £100 each plus fitting from my local garage.   I don't thrash the car and don't take chances in the wet, so I can't really comment on grip, but I've never had any sort of skid or slide in this car, so they must be OK.

The P6000s were a vast improvement on the mix and match cheapo rubbish that the last owner had on the car. >:(

At the end of the day Martin, you can read everyone elses personal experiences saying this XXX brand is really good or XXX brand is really pants but at the end of the day its you who needs the new set, It may be worth finding out what the car was originally fitted with when it first rolled out of the factory, the manufactuars dont usually get the choice to far wrong.

Let us know what you went for, be interesting. :y

Lol, two issues here:

The manufacturers tend to use which ever supplier is doing the best price that year.

The tyre suppliers dont supply the standard rubber you can buy in the aftermarket!

They DO, BUT the tyre supplier should check what vehicle its for and get the correct tyres!!

Pirelli's oem marking for GM is a 'squiggle', so look on the side wall if its got a squiggle its a GM oem tyre, if its got a star its BMW, F is for Ford, A is Audi/ VW and N is for Porsche.

If you mix two different OEM tyres, although the same same size/ load rating/ speed rating it could totally cock up the cars handling.

Aparrently most of the issues with tyre wear is because the replacements are not the oem ones, because the tyre fitters are too lazy to do their job!!

Hopefully that clears that all up  :)

A fact that was highlighted when Mr. & Mrs. KW senior bought a new Corsa a year or so ago, and had a blowout on one of the tyres after a couple of hundred miles. Problem was found to be a faulty tyre but the stealers took rather ages to replace it and insisted that a replacement be shipped in from Germany rather than sending it down to muppet fit &co up the road with a cheque for 75 quid.

i must be the only person on here that uses goodyear NCT5  or excellence tyres. At £85 they are a reasonable price last a resonable distance and are very good in both the wet and dry. Cannot see that a michelin tyre is worth almost twice as much.
We used them on police omegas and when there was a shortage of them we used dunlops. they made the car very unpredictable in the wet.

First time round I bought 4 Contis at £150 per corner. I was impressed with the tyre, though not with the price... they lasted a long time though.

Second time a round I bought 4 Michelin for £120 each. Sadly I sold the car shortly afterwards with the 4 new Michelins.

For my new car I got Dunlop FastResponse from blackcircle.co.uk for around £70 each. Good price, good service, and decent tyres (came highly rated on the German ADAK website).

However, price being equal, my money would be on the Contis.

Hope this helps.

My current car came originally fitted with NCT5s. I can't comment on their performance because they were worn and I changed them. But the German ADAK did not like them much...  :-/
