For reasons outwith my control, this is the first chance I've had to reply at length to this thread.

May well offend one or two by what follows but, hey ho....

Friday night was disjointed a little, I think.  I arrived late (after 9pm and dark) so gave up on the tent pitching quite quickly.  Walked the hound (5 hours in a car, despite splash and dash pit stops!) then walked her to the marquees for a seat, a blether, a beer and a curry.  tied the hound to a convenient lampost.  Said my hello's to whomsoever that was in earshot, rather than intrude on already existing groups.

Decided it was too BBQ-ey, smoke and smell wise, and decided to sit over at the car and tent where a few folks that I consider friends were already congregating, to talk car and general 'dangle berries' away from the smoke and the music.  No probs with the music, BTW, just not what I want to do after travelling a few hundred miles to meet folks....   ;)

Saturday, up at 0730, walked the hound and had a leisurly breakfast thereafter and then planned my day.  It was always my inetntion to stay on site rather than explore York and its attractions. I do know that a lot of others were out and about during the day, however.....

Said hello to whoever turned up nearby as I was busy assisting a most willing RobseyMV6 do my cambelt and followers and waterpump - cheers for that, due you a dram or three next time your nearby, particularly if staying overnight....  :y  Did some T2 as and when I had the chance...

Again, anyone who cared to pass by what was the obvious workshop area where a number of cars were having impromtu repairs completed would have had to opportunity to make the aquaintance of some members.  Some did.

Saturday night, I followed the hoards to the marquees which had been joined together to create a larger 'indoor' area.  Good call!  I didn't need an invite, as I used common sense and my nose to tell me thats where folks were congregating.  Had a good night and a good chilli, but, to be most truthfull, I was not the best of company.  My mind was elsewhere as my wife was unwell and I ended up crying into my beer later in the evening.  Sorry....    :-[

Sunday, again up bright and shiney at 0730, walked the hound and cooked breakfast.  Sat and talked 'dangle berries' again for a while and then worked my way round some cars with T2 and TB.  Didn't manage to get round all folks but, hey, folks didn't make a well trodden path to seek me out either.

Packed up my tent and stuff and was off site for 1300 on the sunday, thinking that was a fine time of day to have absorbed the booze from saturday night and I had a mind on the 5 hour journey ahead of me.

If I have not made your aquaintance this weekend, sorry.

If you have not made the effort to make my aquaintance this weekend, I'm sorry for you.

I enjoyed myself as did my hound.

We did have a yellow foam ball that was blown away from the cricket pitch by the wind after it had been left in the open and returned it to 'upwind' on the sunday but, to be honest, it probably would have been blown away again quite quickly.  The hound is not allowed such foam balls.  She devours them into their component parts within seconds!

In summation, events like these are ALWAYS going to be fragmented, no matter how hard you try to do otherwise.  Main thing is to be adult about it and realise that sometimes the mountain and Mohammed must meet however you want to help.  You get out what you actually put in.  If you keep yourself to yourself then thats exactly what you get.  Yourself....

Thanks for an enjoyable weekend OOF'ers.  Enjoyed meeting and greeting friends old and new.  Congrats to Guy and Ian and others for the effort.  Its appreciated.....   ;)

edit for spill chucker and rubbish context....

I'm reading all the posts & taking folks comments on board. I know what it's like to turn up @ a large meet not knowing anyone as i did @ the first Lakesmeet. I was a Newbie back then but made equally welcome by longer serving members & admins & thoroughly enjoyed myself. The Yorkmeet is Ians baby but i'm the one who pushed for members old & new to attend which you all did. I was thrilled to watch the list grow, but as with any "salesman" aftercare is as important as sealing the deal so to speak so maybe i've a lesson to learn there, i just did'nt want appear self important introducing myself to folk.    We asked for this meet to be bigger than last year & it was but it's the first we've organized on this scale. I'll stay in touch with Ian meantime & we'll endeavour to address any issues. It was never our intention to make any of you feel left out or unwelcome.
       Guy :y

Guy, it was easy to introduce ourselves to you, I 'heard' you arriving, before I saw you :y :y
That'll be the Beastie playing her signature tune, can't keep a good Mig down!!!! 8-) :y

Good to see you again Mr Hotel21, I know it was an awful long way for you, and that you were concerned about leaving Mrs Hotel21 with her current illness.  I am pleased, and honoured, that you made the trip :y

Thank you for your teachings on Sat, even though its another skill I will never be able to utilise. Apparently ::)

And what it is with blokes and balls?  After seeing MDTM try to behead Jura, I then kick a ball that blew over, with nearly a repeat.  Poor hound, must be glad for a rest from the bruises from the weekend ;D

Again from me, good to see you Brucie  :y

Some apologies must come from me, as i cleared off for the day, my mate is not really into cars and we decided to explore York.

I am tempted if the Lakes is on, to take the bike up  :)

Just an afterthought given that i crusaded this event it was probably a tad rude on my part to spend the morning asleep. Had i risen earlier i would've had more time to mingle. I regret not saying goodbye to those who left on Sunday. Lessons are being learned! ::)
