york meet feelings
« on: 04 May 2009, 20:19:18 »

im not to cause any arguments or anything like that
i turned up on the thursday at york and along with vx1 and mike-dundee and we all pitched in to help ian-d get the white tents pitched up
(twice)
as the wind took them on the friday

me and mike-dundee went into town and spent over £20 each on food for bbq
and i went out later on, on the friday night and got more fuel for the bbq

anyway
all over the weekend me and ann and i think vx1 felt pushed out over the weekend
it felt as if we may as well of stayed at home and saved money

just thought i will let you know how i am feeling as i have pm'ed loo-knee about the newent meet as i don't want the same situation there

also to add i spoke to ian-d about the air strip and was told not sure if it was aloud
and then found out later that people was racing up and down the air strip which me and vx1 wanted to do and even ann wanted a go

and i spoke about a group photo to be done on the saturday which ian said he will have a chat about and to find out it was done after i went

How did we all know?  :-/ I think that a lot of that £20 must've been thrown this morning when we were clearing up. I opened a carry bag from under a barbie that had chicken, sausages, burgers etc which was a bit on the err..... smelly side!  :(

Just my feeling as well that it seemed as if we were not there. If this was the case then we should have been told that we may not have been welcome and would not have made the 460 mile round trip I would have saved my money and stayed at home. I am not saying I didn't say 'Hello' to anyone and put faces's to names but I just felt as if I was a ghost, you knew I was there but couldn't be seen.

I hope this is not going to happen at the Newent meet as if it is I would rather not attend. When I went to Newent last year I enjoyed myself along with the wife, so going by that I thought this meet was going to be even better, I thought wrong, no disrespect to Ian_D as he organised the event.

I wasn't there but I have been to many big events and this is my take on it...

Anywhere there is a large gathering of people there tends to be groups who get together. IME it is not intentional and anyone is welcome to join in but if you don't make the effort to mingle then it doesn't happen. Just my experiences :y :y :y

That said, I'm gutted I couldn't come along but I couldn't justify coming for the day on Sunday, especially with the other 2 meets I'm already committed to this year (in addition to my other commitments!)

I arrived with Zok and Rob in the afternoon, where we pitched our tents by the trees, to hopefully get shelter from the wind.

Other people came and pitched their tents also up near the trees. There was no-one to tell us where to pitch are tents to be fair so everyone went where they wanted too.
Friday night was to say the least rather disjointed in my view, I have now being to several meets which were not like this at all.

I thought you Nick were with other people and were not coming over to mix with the rest... as I only saw you a couple of times the whole time I was there.
When there was a bit of work going on around the cars I didn't see you then either as there was quite a few people around at that time.

Saturday after the work was finished Elite Pete fancied ago on the air strip himself so we went for a walk around the strip where there was a caravan with some in it. We went back to the Meet where Pete got his car and went around. Rob and myself walked around to see Pete blast up and down. He had been and asked at the caravan where Pete had been given the thumbs up. A member of the forum rang me to let me know that a glider was coming in and to be careful but the gliders were using a different landing strip, so that member knowing we had a thumbs up came around, then a couple of others followed.

The pictures of the cars on the runway I assume must have been taken on Sunday when alot of us had gone home not just you.

Saturday was a great day, what with a few jobs on cars, the blast down the strip and although most difficult the quiz, where there were two tents put together and were almost full.

Don't forget the Lakes and Newent sites are actually proper camping sites, and are really told where abouts you have to go, also they have good toilet blocks etc. Anyone that has been to the Lakes or Newent meet must have felt this one was different I certainly did. But then again I love chatting and am sure I spoke to everyone or at least most.

I went to Newent last year as a "Newbie" and i felt welcomed by everyone having not met any oof'ers before apart from Jim i spent a good few hours there and spoke to lots of different people and watched TB & MDTM change the diff oil seal on Jimbob's Mv6 & Looknee changing somebodys cambelt

I wish i come to York now but unfortunatly its a little too far to drive for me i drive to bracknell and back most days so i dont like driving far in my spare time!

Nick I think you will find that if you keep yourself to yourself and don't mingle with other people they aren't going to come running in to see you.
You say you were busy all day doing tattoos, maybe if you had left your tattooing equipment at home and joined in with the rest you would have felt a little less isolated.
With it being a car club meet and not a tattoo convention I expect many members may not be that interested in tattoos but show an interest in watching or helping other members to do work on their cars.

The quiz was hardly a guarded secret seeing as TB put a post up announcing it last week.
