Four year apprenticeship as heavy vehicle mechanic with National Bus Company.

Thence 14 years as a shift fitter there, and graduated to leading fitter in coach unit, until the company went into receivership.

Bus driver with their successors for 6 years.

Moved onto the railways and became a conductor 12 years ago.

TV production in one role or t'other for over 25 years. Nowadays do this and consultancy - but as freelance in semi-retirement, mainly as a producer in foreign parts. Modern tech means can do a lot without moving an inch!

Interesting to see a couple of others in the same field here.    :D

Never heard of them.  We had all metalbox stuff, good fewyears ago now1977 to1984 I was there, was where I did my apprecticship,

We have a few Metal Box machines at work, and there are a few lads who used to work at Metal Box at West Houghton. The only reminder of the factory now is a road called Metal Box way.  :'(

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&q=Metal+Box+Way,+Westhoughton,+Bolton+BL5+3,+United+Kingdom&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=21.856753,56.99707&ie=UTF8&cd=1&geocode=FdY2MQMdYKHZ_w&split=0&hq=&hnear=Metal+Box+Way,+Westhoughton,+Bolton+BL5+3,+United+Kingdom&ll=53.557079,-2.512994&spn=0.00267,0.006958&t=h&z=18

The picture must be a few years old now as all the houses were finished a few years ago.  :(

I went on 2 traning courses to worcester, went by train 1st time then car the 2nd, so saw some of the area on that trip.  Nice place, was impressed with the can production unit and work shops, Our place shut the factory down and sold out a couple of times, apparently is now one of, if not the biggest sandwich (outout) manufacturer in the country.
