Two questions, actually several others, but two for now...

1. Did they paint it with the boot shut?

2. Is that corrosion along between the rear shelf brace and rear seat panel

Being ali, I think they get the equivalent of booth sprayed rather than dunked like steel. So the hidden parts inside tend to be the primer colour. Maybe DTM knows more, but both mine are mostly that green/grey colour inside.

2) No, trick of the light couple with 1) above.

Fair does. Perhaps it's a generational approach... For all their obvious faults, MB actually paint the whole shell and lacquer the bits that might be visible.

Your era Merc will be steel shell and steel chassis, so needs painting fully to stop the corrosion.  So MB do it the same as any other mass produced steel car.

This weekend, Gixer and I have failed to replace a spring on the front of her car.  Book time is less than an hour per side.

This weekend I had plans to do some welding on the Omega, then do a bit of welding on Sons Civic and replace a rear spring.
None of that will happen for a while now, and Swmbo says I wont be doing any welding here ever.
Says she cant take the stress of me doing risky things anymore.
Dont know whats wrong with the Woman.

Took the Austin to the Supernats hot rod bash at Shuttleworth ,lost clutch hydraulic pressure just as we got to the M40 and had to double declutch all the way there only had to put it in first once and start it. Engine ran sweet all the way and back and clutch okay after finding pedal stuck part way down and its been fine since  so far. Played guess the engine again and nobody got it!

Well I was going to prune and top my daughter’s Cherry Tree today but after reading your post I’m having a rethink and may just pay for a tree surgeon.    I’ve even got my ladders on my roof bars and my chainsaws and ropes in the boot ready to go.  It won’t be long before I have to concede that I’m getting too old for ladder jobs and some of the heavy jobs.

Mrs TB was stressed a few weeks ago when I borrowed a chainsaw* and I started cackling like a madman.  But I had fun

She is half aware I have history of chainsaw accidents when I was a nipper.


*it was only a cordless one this time, but I was mega impressed with its performance.  Impressed enough I considered buying one, but not worth it for the very limited use I have for one. It was a 12V Milwaukee one I borrowed from chrisgixer.   I also borrowed some cordless DeWalt pruners which were very impressive, and was just about to buy some when Mr Bezos offered me an unbranded set on the Vine programme

To cope with my conifer trees, I have a Stihl petrol chainsaw, an extendable pole Stihl petrol chainsaw/hedge trimmer multi-tool, an electric chainsaw and electric hedge trimmer, but by far the best addition to those is my battery Stihl HLA 86 extendable pole hedge trimmer and my battery Stihl HSA 66 normal hedge trimmer that I bought around 3 years ago.
They are so good that they’ve pretty much made the other tools redundant. I would be the first to slag off battery powered tools in the past but these are awesome, and the battery lasts for ages as well.    I just wish that I could justify buying battery chainsaws as then I could get rid of all the petrol tools.

My dad has a battery Stihl chainsaw and it's absolutely great. Still need to fire up the 2 stroke one for the really large diameter stuff, and the latter makes a quicker job of it, but the battery one you can just pick up and use with no messing.

So, Saturday I completely flushed out and replaced my brake fluid. No bubbles, but it was a disgusting brown colour.

Following the head rebuilds, and a few short local trips to bed in the new valves and all the other new parts, embarked on a 150-mile trip down to Suffolk.

Tried to go gentle and not exceed 2000rpm. All seems well so far - no leaks, noises or falters. 34mpg too, which is OK by me…

I know I keep saying it, but without the OOF team this would never have happened. Cheers.

Nice one.     For the first few journeys you’ll be listening to every little noise but it’ll soon pass and you’ll be driving it normal again, confident that all is well. 
Although costly for you, it was a good thread and you have the satisfaction of doing it yourself and the outcome being successful.

Serviced the daily (Yeti) £100 for parts but did use good stuff then the bloke came and mapped out EGR and put a tune in it,extra 50HP he said. It gets a move on now with 220 HP.
