Ok just been out with paperclip and placed in right slots this time lol

Would not work with engine on, however worked with engine not running.

Now I think I got this right, when I first tunred ignition on it did:

10 flashes
pause
1 flash
pause
2 flash
pause 10, pause, 1, pause, 2, pause 10, 1, 2, 10 pause
10
pause, 3, pause, 4, pause, 10, pause 3, pause, 4, pause 10 and kept repeating

Any ideas or have I done this wrong??????

Pulling my hair out!!!!!!!!!!!

hi all.
sorry to but in to this thread, but this sounds very simular to the problems i'm having with my beast, she's a 95 2.0 16v, runs sweet untill she's hot and if it dosen't cut out and go into limp home when i re start, she goes straight into limp home when i  start up . leave it a couple of hours and it's fine again untill re start.the paper clips telling me, 92 (cam sensor) and 94(hall effect sensor ? ). is it worth me changing the cam sensor or do i just need to go mental with the idle control valve,
would be greatful of any advice.
all the best

Seeing as it is complaining of cam sensor, I would replace it.

On the 4 pot, pop the front cambelt cover off, it's held on by one E8 torx bolt.

Plugs in from the top near the cambelt cover.

hi mate, the cam sensor is situated behind the black cover at front of engine were the cam belt is,you have to remove the big auxillary belt first to get to retaining torx bolts in cover, the sensor is then in front of you on the inlet/left side of cam with two 8mm torx bolts and a lead connected to plug around the manifold area then just pulls off block,it sounds like his damaged/cracked it in doing repair as this puts the engine into limp home and stops it revving above 2500rpm stationary or driving, hope helps you out ,good luck, curly.

Thanks

Will try and get hold of a cam sensor tom morning whilst at work  ::) then will try and fit it tom evening.

Without sounding too thick does the fan belt have to be removed to remove the cam cover on her. Ive never taken a vauxhall apart before only fords, and to be honest up to now have avoided it. lol

Ok, heres an update as promised!

Stripped belt and timing cover, removed old cam sensor to be replaced by new one. On inspection of new one, found that wiring cap is different so had to change wiring loom (This came with new one from Vauxhall). On changing wiring found old cables dont match the new ones (colour wise). Have tried all combinations to no avail ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

So still in same situation. Do u think there are two different types or is it usual to have to change the wiring??

One more update. After replacing the cam sensor and giving up I did another paperclip test. The results were:

0120 = Throttle Potentiometer Sensor (TPS)

0340 = Camshaft Sensor (Not sure if I got right one!!)
