Got Nexens on all four corners (The car came with them) and to be fair i've found them OK so far, they've also received good reviews. When they are worn i'll probably look at Sport 9090's.

I've got another set of wheels with some rather cheapo looking tyres on them, think they'll be taken off at some point and made into swings for the boys!!!!

i changed to dunlops, a lot tougher tyer that wears a lot better, has excellent grip

We found Dunlop SP9000's to be $hite on tyre wear, even though they do grip well, as you say. There's always a compromise. The dealer fit 'kleber' tyres wear poorly as well.

Anybody got Eagle F1 Goodyears??? Think they're gonna be the next to try. Heard a few horror stories about Michelin 'Energy' tyres on other cars (even though not avaible for mig), they don't grip much when cold  :o

I had Nexen's for about 9000 miles and found them ok - though can't remember feeling worried that the car was losing traction at all - must just be my driving 8-) :y

So to sum this thread up "Buy cheap crappy tyres and die young"

 :D :D :D

Do you mean ""I was coming off a roundabout in wet weather, I was doing about 35mph in third and floored it"" sums up the thread.????

Ive had ""crappy"" tyres on various cars over the years Nankang being the preferred choice and have never had problems in the wet.....Ive had the car sideways a few times but then i have with so called super dooper tyres,no tyre will grip in the wet if your driving like a cock. ::)

Ive currently got a set of Full runs on the rear of the Elite and despite some entustic driving (Read driving like a cock  ;D) they have gripped remarkably well despite being crappy and costing £50 each fitted. ;D ;D

People really should remeber that its the driver that keeps the car on the road and shouldn't put all there faith in the tyres and hope they will keep them on the road simply because they cost a small fortune, seems too be a lot of Snobbery when it comes too tyres.

Just another point..... turn the TC off in the wet.. it's useless!  (My Opinion)   Don't like the way it kicks in and takes over... too interventive!  Always been used to RWD, suppose it's second nature to feather the throttle!

ABS is the same...  if you drive within the boundaries, cadence braking should suffice...  been on skid pans with both... it's down to the driver (My Opinion)

I suppose I've started something now!!!!!!!!!!! ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Quite agree.... however, your average driver doesn't seem to know their boundries / completely over estimates them. (And before I get flamed, I was not refering to anybody on this site, more like www.frontfoglightson-neonwasherjets-5grandstereoina50quidcar-4inchtailpipe-baseballcaponbackwards-20inchwheels.com)

Well, I finally remembered to look.  I put Nankangs on.  They're quite good in the wet.  I think that I had Nexens.  At least by the time I took them off they were absolutely useless in the wet.  They were old and hard and barely legal by then.  Low tread Nexens were better in the dry than full tread Nanakangs though.

One thing that I think makes a big difference is taking into account which front tyres you have on as well, as it really affects the 'balance' of the car.

If all 4 tyres match then the breakaway characteristics will be roughly as the car was made to be like (albeit with differing grip levels down to the tyre type and compound)  but as soon as you have cheap tyres one end and decent tyres the other, one end will lose grip sooner and completely change the way the car handles.

For example my car came with a new set of super-cheapo rear tyres and soon after I fitted some mid-range fronts and currently the car pretty much oversteers at any opportunity - kinda fun sometimes but tbh it might be a liability in an emergency so I'm considering swapping front to rear (to give more understeer) or replacing them to match the fronts.

Should always be best tyres on rear - understeer is more progressive and more controllable than oversteer.

I'm not the best driver in the world and know my limits.   :-/

I drive and accelerate fast most of the time except in the wet.  When it's slippy, I can't control the car through acceleration on anything but a piece of straight (with a rear wheel drive).

If there's a way, someone let me know.

TC always stays on, it cuts the power quicker than I can react.  I've seen so many Boxters and similar wrapped around a lamp post in the wet - just at the exit of a roundabout.  Of course, they have no such thing as TC.

It seems to me that the Omega is more about recovery driving in the wet  :)

Not for 'safe' driving.  Front does 90% of braking, so better tires should be there - unless you drive like a loonie.  :P ;D

Have Dunlop SP9000 235 45 ZR17 on front and back of my MV6 and have done for the past 78,000 miles, never had any understeer, back end always goes first or at the same time. If I'm driving hard turn TC off as it interfears with driver control, you can't balance the car in a drift with the computer sticking the brakes on and off and cutting the power. :y
