I would recomend a porche 944, I drove mine last summer for a bit of RWD fun. You can pick them up for around a 1k. avoid the 924 because they look rubbish compared to the 944 (all flared out) get your self a LUX if poss there even nicer.....
... Best handling car I have owned with plenty of poke. I have the 2.5lt. Parts (mechanicly) are cheap and basic VW. Body work is very expensive, thats why mine is off the road....  :-[

A VW Beetle by anyother name. ;D ;D ;D

Evo magazine recently did a feature on £1k heroes, they picked up a Nissan 200sx, a twin turbo Lexus soarer, a BMW E36 325i and a (FWD) Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9  IIRC  :y

I have had a 924 turbo before now and have looked at the
944, but the ones i have seen are real rough old dogs.
If one came up at the right price then i would  :y

i would get a early 3 door sierra xr4i. basic mechanics (2.8 v6) dont rust too bad for a sierra!
only made for 3 years so rare and only going up in value and you can still pick up a good one for 1k
winner for the money. o and they drift like mad too

If I had a grand to spare and wanted a fun rwd car, i'd buy this :

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fiat-X1-9-Bertone-1988_W0QQitemZ180214672582QQihZ008QQcategoryZ9843QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

 :y

I've owned two, and they are an absolute hoot

PS 10 will get you 20 that the starting problem is an earth strap missing or corroded in the engine bay!! (I know from experience)

Lots of possibilities, but one I'm familiar with (as I've considered it) is an E30 BMW 3 series. The decent ones won't lose any money unless you crash it, they're supposed to be really good fun to drive -- much more tail happy than recent models. Not sure 1k will stretch to a decent 325i sport, which gets sports suspension and an LSD as standard, but even the lesser powered versions or non-sport 325i will be a hoot.

On the other hand, a tuned 200SX is a different beast altogether!

Correct, although mine is a mildly modified example it still puts out over 175BHP at the rear wheels. this equates to approx 210 at the fly, and with the power to weight ratio always leaves me grinning from ear to ear when I plant my right foot in anger.

i consider myself to be a brave man......

there is a line between brave and stupid, that's a line i wont cross  ;)

bringing the bike home would be a stupid move and will result in a below wasteline surgical procedure without any form of pain killers  :o :o
