Any ca I would like to replace the Omega with is as old as the Omega,so imo I might as well just keep running the Omega - while I can afford to run it.Unfortunately Im not sure how much longer that will be. :(

And don't forget the swirl flap issue on tractor Beemers either.

That's not just an issue which affects beemers though, it affects quite a lot of modern diesels :-\ I don't see any of the 'newer' common rail diesels being 100% reliable to be honest.
to be fair to Bmw, (twitch, wince, twitch, growl)  it's easily sorted with a swirl flap ectomy. Not a difficult job.

Although I don't know why I'm trying to be fair, bloody idiots fitted such a flimsy part in the inlet in the first place.

It's just something to be aware of and deal with when buying.

Wish list.

Vxr8
Phaeton....

.... If struggling.
Possibly RWD Audi. Rs6 sport line if I can live with the suspension nightmare.
Or similar Merc.

But given the massive lump of wedge these will cost over an omega, why bother?

VXR8 for me. Maybe the previous models (which should be more affordable), its a little less extreme.

Or, Jag XF tractor :o

It is indeed something to be aware of, never had a problem with any of mine (touch wood) and hopefully won't, although that's not to say that thousands of other haven't had issues with them. It is a poor part and a poor design.

As for Merc E-Classes they're good cars, but they do like an autobox although the later post 2007 cars seem better (I drive them on a daily basis) the 2.2 diesel is quick enough too. Mind you I must say when I had my C Class, I did kind of get quite attached to that, that was lovely  :-*

XF's are nice, but I can't helping looking at them and thinking what a posh looking Ford Mondeo.

See, I have a problem.  I'm not old enough to want a Jag. Or a diesel. But every time I drive an XF tractor, I enjoy it.

Weird.

For the estatists out there, the new one is available to order as an estate: VXR8 Clubsport Sportswagon, and is a bit less garish than the fullblown GTS.
The prefacelift estates are approx $30k aus for an '07 one.  8)

The obvious replacement for a dead Omega would be one that is less rusty. :)

I could drive a brand new diseasel Insignia but there is no point. What I might save on fuel would cover the repayments, but the net result would simply be that I get to drive a shiny new car that will lose value hand over fist. And also may or may not be more reliable than the proven car that I know inside out and which owes me nothing. :y

I do find Jags still have an Old man image attached to them, when I had the XJR, I did constant get asked, "Is that your dads car?". Now that would've been less irritating if they weren't being serious  :-[ However I now do have to say, I can't see myself having many more petrols in the future  :(

As I'm now past the age of retirement perhaps this is the way to go then - better than using my bus pass  :o :) ;)

I am tempted by the VW Passat CC, especially in the top 3.5 spec. Not now but in a few years when they are cheaper, lol.
I think they have a stylish look that follows on from the miggy.
What do others think?

I like them a lot, and the 3.5 makes a sound to die for  :-* :-*
