Agreed, I am at a loss as to why anyone would wish to expose all their personal activities with everyone else

Its not with everyone else though is it? You only share it with people who you want to share it with.

Example:

I went to Dublin at the weekend, going to share photos taken with my friends I known since school, old work Buddies from my last job, MrsT's sister's & friends ect.

Really simple way to share photos with people I want to.

Its like TV, I choose not to watch shite like Eastenders, Strictly, Little Brother, Football ect. I watch shows I want to, I share things with people I want to.

I've never, ever, or plan to play a game on facebook. Its a tool & its used as such.

Thats remarkably verbose, normally its a couple of grunts followed by "7ish".

True. I must be getting old. 8 o'clock is way too late.

You've obviously never rung a certain mobile in Stoke. ;D
Yeah, I have, but hung up when I didn't understand what he was saying...  ...apparently, it was "Hello, this is DLK"...

 ::) Really  :-X

Then how come you know what Mrs..... actually never mind  ::)

There is a lot of rubbish on facebook, all the stupid games and so on. But another example, work drinks.... old company I worked for is very sociable, nice and easy to organise some drinks! Yes it can be done via phone/e-mail, but its just easier!

Here is another more "radical" look, is not General Discussion a form of Social Networking? Photo's of holidays, posted, thoughts on other cars & their forums. People asking how to DIY, recommendations on products/sevices?

Is this not like Merc/Audi stigma? Stick a facebook logo on OOF General Chat and suddenly its gay dating  ::)

Whilst a forum may get the Web2.0 moniker, despite the fact they are almost as old as the WWW, its certainly not a Social Network tool.

Forums/Wikis (ie, old school colaboration tools) are more for, well, collaboration. Social Networking seems to be, in my limited experience of what I've seen, appears to be (maybe cleverly marketted as) an egotistical tool - "look-at-me, with 150 virtual friends, that aren't really friends as I make little attempt at 'being friends'"  :-\

Maybe I'm just old fashioned...

There are people, granted who try and get 100's if not 1,000's of "friends" but everyone on mine, I have known in either work capacity, school, or just friend.

Old Uni friend posted pictures of his trip to Paris, I noted, what looked like pictures from Eurostar, prompted me to ask him, how was it, booking, could you take your own picnic onboard and such. Without him sharing I would not have asked, yes I could google for said answers, but nice to hear it from a friend  ;)

Apart from 1 person, I have no desire to get back in touch with people I knew from school.  Yet they are all inviting me to join them, purely to boost their ego. PITFA. My mailbox gets enough grief, without the constant invites from those idiots.

See, in that scenario, I would have rang someone I knew who had been on there. Or even Eurostar themselves.

But then I go out to shops, rather tahn sit on my arse doing it all online ;)
