Good evening guys,can one of you knowledgeable people tell me how to re-sync my infra red remote locking fob.New battery's in led working checked signal from fob at work(ie infra red receiver).Still no joy hope someone can help,many thanks dean

sit in car ignition to position 2 press lock on fob keep pressed doors should lock and unlock-sync done if doesnt work with lock try unlock and keep pressed you will know when you get the right one as doors will lock and unlock

Hi Fiend61,my fob only has one button in the middle,and a small one on the right hand side.Is it still the same procedure,thanks dean

Just to add,been out to the car just.Put ignition on to second position pressed fob several times,nothing.Then the led stopped working on the fob,removed batteries reinserted batteries led working again.Try again the same thing happened again does anyone have any suggestions .Dean

Synching the infra red remote is a different procedure to radio remote. Going from memory you have to
- turn ignition on
- point remote to be programmed @ receiver in roof (small black dome near interior light). Ideally you need a second key. If only one key split remote from key.
- keep button on remote pressed while pointed directly @ receiver until interior light blinks 3 times

That should do it.

I thought you needed Tech 1 to program an Infra Red keyfob is that just for a new one?

Well got the fob working to a fashion,tried the reset thing still no good.I have been reading i may need tec1?,so don't know what to do next .

Some time ago I got a new old stock IR keyfob off Ebay and wanted to get it synched up with my car. Somebody told me about the ignition on and aim it at the sensor trick but it didn't work. Then another told me it needs Tech 1, not Tech 2 cos apparently Tech 2 won't do it!!! But I could be wrong, I'm not the expert by any means.

This is your original control, that used to work with this car prior to battery change?

If so then you don't need tech1, the correct code will still be in the fob.

The (Feb 1995) Owners manual says the following about programming the (IR) remote:

Switch on ignition; system will then be in programming mode for 30 seconds.
Direct remote control unit towards sensor from a distance of no more than 20cm/8 in. (see illustration).
Briefly press button 1 on remote control unit.
The coutesy lamp flashes to show that the remote control has been programmed.

That's word-for-word including the mis-spelling of courtesy. 

As The Boy says, your battery contact(s) may be giving trouble, disassemble the fob enough to give yourself visibilty of any possible corrosion on the bits that actually touch the batteries.  If there is any, clean it off and then try.
The illustration mentioned in the text is of the dome thing Clarkey mentions, and button 1 of these remotes is the round one, not the one on the side.

Edit: What battery or batteries have you fitted?  The way you've written "new battery's in" is ambiguous.
These fobs use 2 x CR2025 coin cells.

Hi Abiton,thanks for the reply.First yes its the original fob that worked Prior to battery replacement,and 2025x2 fitted.Went out earlier and did the reprogramming procedure,nothing at all happened.I have tried to clean the fob the best i can ,and as i say it works to a fashion.Do you or anyone else have any idears.Thanks Dean

If it didn't light up, your fob seems to have problems, may or may not be fixable.

I had to give up on our original one after several attempts at fixing it.  I was lucky to find/buy a 2nd hand one that was relatively 'young' and managed to transplant the eprom chip that holds the code from my original into this newer one, so the car didn't need a chat with Tech1.  I'd be happy to have a look at your fob for you, and if you want to send me a known working one* with it, I could do the same transplant.  No charge, but no guarantee of success.

*Finding such a thing may not be easy though, other than buying a new one from a dealer. ISTR being quoted about £70 and not being keen...

Hi mate yes the led did light up but no response at all.I have 2 fobs but the one does not work at all,i may be able to do what you said.Change the eprom chip at work but i have no idea if it will work.You say you can get a new one,could you tell me where from please.Regards Dean
