I am going on holiday soon to Mallorca or Majorca if you prefer. I am going to Paguera, it is full of Germans. I go ther because it is full of Germans. Why, because they know how to behave. There is no drunks no fights no problems. Just up the road is Magaluf. It is full of British people, getting drunk, fighting etc.

I want a holiday not trouble.

Yeah, the old cliches do get a tad boring, don't they?  Especially whilst living in Germany and getting a view on how they feel about things in history. Which I believe would be quite suprisng to most.

I think we British are right to expect a home side (in this case England) to give a good showing in European or for that matter world cup ) football.

Football in Britain is a very very well paid occupation, nay Industry. True there are other countries with as well paid leagues. Spain and Italy for example. So it is fair that our expectation is for a good team and that we put in a good showing.. Maybe we did all that was expected and have to expect to be beaten by Italy, Spain and Germany. For me that isn't good enough. They are similar sized countries and don't have a vastly larger pool of people to become talented players. Maybe we are trying to field too many home sides. Perhaps we ought to just have a Great Britain team.............. Come on Britain lets show em in the World Cup.

'hmmmmm' Nothing changes !! Arriving in England at 4 years of age, it was very hard dealing with all the abuse. 'Bl**dy Eyeties ran away in the war'.. I was FOUR years old ?? There were no authorities for us to turn to, no help offered from any quarter.
It seems we cannot win whatever we do ? But I really must respond to one remark imparticular made in this thread.
but in my opinion whatever italians win, they dont deserve!! some years ago they beat brasil by a poor game, they only stand in defence..
 
and brasil had a bad goal keeper.. they only came 3 times and all 3 ended with goal.. 
 
macaronis dont play well .. I have no doubt about it.. Could this be considered a racist comment in some PC circles ??
But while we are at it Cem, and thinking of National Pride. We, 'Italy', ONLY have 'FOUR'world cup stars on our team shirts, unlike Turkey who have qualified for the finals 3 times ?? In 1950. 1954 & 2002. ' Fabulous.
The Turkish National Team is according to the FIFA World Rankings, ranked 25th in the world.
Us Italians simply cannot compete, after all, Italy is the second most successful national team in the history of the World Cup... 'Macaronis'.. O.K. You 'Doners'...

and a note: I'm 46 years old and watched several world cups.. top of the list is always occupied by south america teams like brasil and argentina.. admit it.. none of the european teams are even close whatever the result is ..

Well Cem.. I'm 64 and have watched a few world cup tournaments, does that mean I know what I'm talking about ?
But I must agree with you about it always being South American countries winning, as we can see from this :
