Been in retail management for 26 years since I left uni, in various sectors and currently work for a national supermarket so (hopefully!) this time around will be safe in current climate. Actually like my job though being "old school" still find it hard to get the hours down. :y

OK ill kick off...... IM a regional Transport Planner....

I am involved in the Supply-Chain management for a large logistics company , co-ordinating the distribution of our clients distribution needs nationally and throughout the United Kingdom. I am also involved in the consultation of supply-chain solutions and implementation of Transport Management Systems.

Oh and an Omega nut........ according to my wife (Bev)
ALL traffic planners should spend one day a month riding shotgun with a driver just to remind them how long runs actually take allowing for weight, width restrictions & low bridges, tipping times, tachograph breaks, you should'nt have promised the customer before checking with the driver. One more thing, try to distinguish between invoice & delivery addresses. Lost count of the times i've been sent to an office in an artic when i should be at the warehouse, usually miles away & get looked at with ridicule, phone in & get moaned at for being late!!! No wonder there's a shortage of HGV drivers.
Not saying you do that yourself mate but you can't deny many planners do...I'll stick to themonuclear physics & a little architecture from no own!!!!! ::) :y

Funnily enough i did just that, as an ex hgv driver myself i can see it from both sides, i worked with blokes a few years back who had no idea about the size, width, speed of an hgv and only saw it was 2 inches on the map and a lorry could get there just as quick as a Car. Laugh, i just give up with people like that....... your right though most planners i have worked with are useless and half have no knowledge of Driver hours, regs etc etc.....
The best planners are ex drivers. Some things can't be taught through a computer & training course, you have to know to do it properly. :y

Reminds me of my Traffic Manager at the last place I worked on the HGV's. Only transport work he'd ever done was a fortnight's motorcycle couriering! Tells me I can get a 21 ton load from Worcester to Peterlee in 2 and a half hours! Traffic manager my ar5e! He couldn't manage traffic in a closed car park!!!!

Got a lot of time for them - had ancestors on mums side working on Brixham trawlers (including early motor ones) and pleasure vessels between the wars (how her dad met her mum when moored up).

Dads side had a ex Navy and later Coastguard - few details as he was old when dad was young - dads dad was last and dad was one of the last.

Quite a few on my ancestors worked on the sea, some others were gardeners!

Software and Commissioning Engineer for Injection Moulding Automation systems...
Really? Who for?
Engel?
Staubli?
Third party integrator?

I spend my life with Engels that make moulds for making contact lenses with.  :y
None of the above...G-MAT.  If the product can stand it, our robots can pull 12g...before i started, they managed to make IMM's fault because they were being told to close before they'd finished opening..
There are a few of our machines with negative takeout times.

Usually bigger stuff than contact lenses, but going to commission one that handle hyperdermic needles tomorrow..
LOL, that can get expensive... For the robot hand or end effector if you are lucky... Have you ever pushed a machine over? Only the question came up at our place the other day. I thought it was a stupid question really - our machines are 80t capacity and weight 5 tonnes.

If you are doing hypodermic syringes, I am guessing Swindon or Plymouth. Wherever, enjoy putting on and taking off the cleanroom garb...

Our take out robots have carbon fibre arms so no pushing..just splinters when maintenance techs short out our safety systems!

We just crashed the press' program - fault was "Consent to close received before mould open - check signals"!!!! ;D ;D

Neither - Woodstock.  We've got a machine to go to Swindon shortly though...

For some reason i shave my beard off when theres some pharma work looming - can't stand the beard masks!
