they are same platform as Bentley Cotinental - but as I posted earlier they are heavy, permanent 4 wheel drive vehicles, heavy on fuel around town, expensive to tax but quite cheap to insure and service compared to Audi.

I would go for post 2006 eg http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volkswagen-Phaeton-3-0TDi-5st-auto-2006MY-V6-/250911426509?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3a6b7c87cd.

If you do not object to 215000 miles on a 2006 then this will go for less than £6k I would think

I am tempted by the VW Passat CC, especially in the top 3.5 spec. Not now but in a few years when they are cheaper, lol.
I think they have a stylish look that follows on from the miggy.
What do others think?

FIL has one of these (10 reg). loads of toys. nice to drive. nice looking car.

IMO its the cost. You can now get very good migs for at least half the price, (then spend the rest over a period of time keeping it going  ;D ;D)

216000 in 5 years isn't neccessarily motorway miles. I get through 70000+ every year on all sorts of roads. Would have got a Phaeton if I could afford to buy new. I'd only have kept it for 2 years though because I wouldn't trust any VW products to remain reliable out of warranty... :-X

Buy a nice Omega outright and keep it going indefinitely. IF it behaves itself, it will cost you peanuts, if it misbehaves it isn't the end of the world because it won't be costing monthly repayments, and it will never depreciate: even if it loses 20% each year it doesn't matter because 20% of keck all is still keck all. :)

Tempted mate - had omegas a few years back as company cars, and must admit enjoyed my current Elite.  However getting to the stage where it is a PITA to need to crawl around underneath - had problems recently sealing oil cooler cover plate (advice - make a gasket, works fine).  Mine still runs well & only 105K on it.  Had Jags before  years ago - a proper 60's 3.8S and an early 3.8 E Type - so will probably go for the V6 Jag.

The X type (mondeo) and S type from that era are pretty unreliable, and poorly designed. But the S type does have that V8 ::)[/quote]

the s-type isnt a ford or a jag its a lincon floor pan the only reason i no this is because my dad bought a s-type r and had it remaped and a few othe things including exhausts (sounded wkd with the v8) and he wanted to up grade his brakes but no one did an upgrade and he couldnt use any other brakes from any other jag and he eventually found out that it wasnt a jag it was a lincon thats why nothing swoped over :)
