SWMBO really likes her Blue one, as it is kind of silvery blue, but she may well buy a yellow one next, as she really likes those as well. ::) ::) ::)

Theres more headroom in the boot of an Omega than the front seats of one of those!

I think it's safe to say, she won't be having an omega. Too big for her. Is300(?) on an 03 plate was fine for me tbh, but I take your point. It is a Jap car after all. Mate got one for his wife. From 10k to 90k it's had nothing but consumables and a lambda sensor. Bit fussy to set up geo, but they love it! Almost bullit proof. 3.0l straight 6 auto.

Nowhere to put an LPG tank though.

The Lexus IS is nice inside, nice ish outside, but inside they're cramped, very cramped, pretty much no matter where you have the seat.

;D We need to remember who this car is for me finks.  ;)

Handling doesn't need to be massively impressive, small, but not so small or low she'll feel vulnerable. Sporty, ish, nippy, high up... Ok, she wants a vag based car without really realizing it, but trying to dissuade her away because the preferred but not essential auto box is not reliable.

So let's try it the other way round, who makes a reliable autobox in a mid size car?

Thats never going to be easy to fulfil it seems. I guess you've found this out already. Probably, and pains me to say, back to beemer terriotory. Although pains are eased knowing hell will freeze over first ;D

Sporty pretensions without DSG rules out virtually all autos.

If she likes the high riding position, MPV shite? Or my preference, a transit?  Actually, scrub the transit, I remember she swore when I suggested that ;D

Lets face it, she doesn't want an auto (traditional autos are appalling with small engines), she wants DSG. Cut through all the crap, thats what she wants.

So, the way I see it:
VAG with DSG, and cop the initial cost, and potential maintenance costs of box, or widen your choice to manual cars if she is happy for a manual.
