As an ex (very active) member of the New MINI community, and having organised events for owners of the MINIs, I feel that meetings only work if everyone is interested in meeting and socialising with everyone else......

As soon as you get people keeping themselves to themselves or expecting people to come over and say hello then divisions appear.

The aim of a meet is to MEET people and the only way of doing that is by getting out of your tent and going around and saying hello.

Do it that way and very quickly you will know everybody......

100% correct and that's what it is all about.... ie the social element :y :y

Both Mrs TheBoy and I commented on the way home that it seemed very 'disjointed'.

I do not think this was in any way the fault of the organisers - though I remember a discussion about whether or not the music bit would be a good idea a few weeks ago.  As said then, I think music can be divisive.

As for the quiz, it was common knowledge that it was starting around 8ish, had been posted up here a couple of times, including a showcase poll :o.  I wouldn't go around knocking at tents/vans, as people, particularly those with younger kids, may not want to be disturbed.

I pitched my tent pretty much as far away from the 'event' tents purely because I knew with her extended work hours, Mrs TheBoy would want to go to bed earlier than many, and could do without the noise.

Also, the one reason I do quizes for these meets is to encourage everyone to try to join in.  Its also why, on this particular occasion, I picked the teams in an attempt to break up the groups that had formed.

Absolutely right.

The way I understood it was the large tents were put together on Saturday so everyone could get together, there were no invites sent out, everyone just turned up as and when, as for using the airstrip on Saturday, I went and asked as was told it wouldn't be a problem.

And that worked, though as a first meet, as such, I did not have a group, I just tagged on wherever, without a problem, and ended on the winning team :y :y

I think the max possible score was thirty something. Scores from the 4 teams were 9, 7.5, 2 and 1 :o

Apparently, it was too hard ::)

Firstly - I haven't read many of the responses to this thread....

Nick, Sorry you felt like you were left out. That was not planned in any way shape or form.

I can't comment on other people, but I did try to speak to everyone, and I was not ignoring you or pushing you away at any point throughout the meet.

As for the quiz, I can't actually remember how I found out about it, and I was certainly not the first to be told about it either!(I don’t have a problem with that BTW, as I just cross the bridge as I get to it) I knew there was going to be a quiz as it was mentioned on the forum before hand, but I didn’t know when, where and who by etc.

Myself and a few others decided to put both tents together to try and create a more Central point which we could all stay in for a social drink, and meeting new people etc. And this is where the quiz took place. The idea of four random groups was a very good idea (whosever’s that was), and did help us all meet new members. However it’s a pity we didn’t all stay together once the quiz had finished.

As for the music, I must admit I did think it was a little loud at times, however an no point did anyone ask 'Do you mind turning that down' - If that was the case, action would have been taken by either myself, or the owner of the MP3 player / Laptop / phone which was used for the music source.

As for the talking, shouting and laughing in the tent.... Come on mate!! Its a meet in the middle of a field that happens once or twice a year! People are there to have a laugh, have a drink, and show their cars... Did you really expect us to whisper to each other???  :o

As for the 'Turning music off at 10:30' etc... Well... My Gran goes to bed later than that!

The group photos… We left it too late on the Saturday, so I suggested Sunday to a few people, next thing the sun had gone down so we had no choice!

As fast as Sunday came, Omegas vanished!  ;D I know people had other commitments which I FULLY understand, however I (and a lot of other members on here) didn’t expect them to be so soon. Guy must have had a shock when he woke up and got out of his van, as half of the members has gone!  ;D

The runway… Like I said to you, we shouldn’t really have been on there as it is still live in places. I didn’t know what was going on when a few members went on the runway on Saturday… And I still don’t know who, or what happened. All I know is that the time which I went on the runway in my car, was purely a case of ‘sod it, I will join them’ as others were already on their way there… and like sheep, everyone followed! And YES… we did all get bollocked by the farmer!!!

Over all, I enjoyed the meet... Yes things weren’t brilliant, and the separation wasn't ideal, but that’s beyond my control really.

All I can say is:

Thanks for everyone that turned up, and I deeply hope that you all at least enjoyed SOME of it!

The York meet will be happening again, and your ALL welcome to come along if you wish. :)

Think Mrs. The Boy should do the question for Newent, much prefered questions like, "What are the names of the seven dwarves?"  ;D
